A collaborative and practical approach

Louise will work with you to understand what has been happening in your life, what patterns may be keeping you stuck, and what changes would feel most meaningful to you.

Your sessions will combine thoughtful reflection with practical strategies you can use in everyday life. The goal is not only to talk about challenges, but to develop skills and insights that help you navigate them with greater confidence.

Louise draws on evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT). These approaches can help you build skills for managing difficult thoughts and emotions, strengthening resilience, and creating lasting change.

Therapy is always tailored to you. Sessions move at a pace that feels safe and supportive while gently encouraging growth.

Common questions

What happens in the first therapy session?
During the first session, we will focus on getting to know each other and understanding what has brought you to therapy. Louise will ask questions about your current concerns, your history, and what you hope to gain from therapy. She will then make a plan with you about the best way to help you achieve your goals.
Is my problem 'serious enough' for therapy?

People often worry that their problems aren't "serious" or "bad" enough to justify coming to therapy. But there is no such thing as "bad enough" and no need to justify therapy to yourself or anyone else. If something in your life is causing distress, taking up a lot of mental space, or making day-to-day life harder than it needs to be, that is reason enough to seek support.

Therapy offers a space to talk openly, gain perspective, and develop practical ways of coping and moving forward.

What is Louise like?

We promise, Louise is nice! She is warm, thoughtful, and easy to talk to. Many clients say they feel comfortable opening up with her, even when discussing things they have never shared before.

Her approach is collaborative and non-judgemental. Rather than telling you what to do, Louise works alongside you to understand what has been happening in your life and what changes would feel most helpful.

Clients often describe therapy with Louise as supportive, insightful, and encouraging. The aim is to create a space where you feel safe enough to be honest, while also feeling supported to make meaningful changes in your life.

How many sessions will I need?
The number of sessions varies depending on your goals and the challenges you're facing. Some people find a few sessions helpful for gaining clarity or learning specific strategies, while others prefer longer-term support to work through deeper patterns.
What kinds of issues can therapy help with?
Therapy can help with concerns such as anxiety, low mood, stress, relationship difficulties, disordered eating, workplace stress, and feeling overwhelmed or stuck in life.
Is everything I say confidential?
Yes. What you discuss in therapy is confidential. The only exceptions are situations where there are serious concerns about safety or legal obligations that require information to be shared.
Do I need a referral to see a psychologist?

You do not need a referral to book an appointment. However, if you would like to claim a Medicare rebate, you will need a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP. You can find out more about how Mental Health Care Plans work here.

What if I can't attend a face-to-face appointment?
Online sessions are available for clients across Brisbane and throughout Australia who prefer the convenience and flexibility of telehealth.
